JOIN THE ORCHESTRA AS A PLAYER

Learn. Play. Share.

We are a learning orchestra. We welcome players from all backgrounds, whether you haven't played for a while, or you are just picking up the instrument for the first time. We play a wide variety of music, from classical to Broadway to pops. We want to give players experience playing different styles and broaden their musical knowledge. We play two concerts a year, in December and May. There are no auditions or playing tests to join, and you do not need to have played in a band or orchestra before. We are proud to partner with the city of Albany Parks and Recreation department as a community enrichment activity. We rehearse Tuesday evenings in the Albany Riverfront Community Center at 489 Water Ave in historic downtown Albany, Oregon. Your tuition fee helps pay for our use of this facility.

For those who are learning a stringed instrument for the first time, you will need a least one year of study with a teacher before you will be ready to play in orchestra. At a minimum, you need to be able to read music, know the notes in first position on your instrument, and understand and play basic rhythms and slurs. We encourage adaptive and strategic approaches to playing difficult passages so that less experienced players can participate and learn from others in the orchestra while still contributing significantly to the music.
